Ram grew up in Kathmandu, living right beside a small Thangka school (a local art school for Thangka painting) where he first glimpsed the art as a child. Over time, he quietly picked up the basics—mixing colors, sketching outlines, and grasping the symbols—learning from the school’s teachers and practicing patiently on his own. Years later, Ram now crafts his own Thangka designs, and we’re honored to share them with you. He enjoys merging tradition with a fresh, personal style, bringing a contemporary feel to classic designs. A big football fan, Ram loves kicking a ball with friends on weekends and cheering for his favorite UK team. When he’s not playing or watching matches, he teaches at his school, sharing his knowledge to encourage young people to paint and discover their own creative paths.
Explore further the elements of this Vajra Mandala Thangka:
  • Central Vajra: At the heart of the design, a golden vajra—a cross-shaped symbol with four prongs—stands as a powerful emblem of Tibetan Buddhism. Often described as a "diamond scepter," the vajra symbolizes the unbreakable nature of enlightenment and the strength of wisdom. Its four prongs represent the four noble truths of Buddhism, while its central hub embodies the unity of all things. In rituals, the vajra is used to symbolize cutting through ignorance, a key step on the path to spiritual clarity.
  • "Om Mani Padme Hum" Mantra: Encircling the vajra, Tibetan script in black and gold displays the sacred mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum." This six-syllable chant, meaning "the jewel in the lotus," is a prayer to Avalokiteshvara, the bodhisattva of compassion. Each syllable is believed to purify one of the six realms of existence, guiding practitioners toward enlightenment. The mantra's flowing script adds a rhythmic, meditative quality, inviting viewers to reflect on its profound message. Chanted by Buddhists worldwide, it is a cornerstone of Tibetan spiritual practice.
  • Decorative Elements: The design features two rings: an inner band with flowing floral patterns and shapes, and an outer band with precise lines weaving through traditional Tibetan motifs.
